Where to Stay in Koh Kood: Resorts & Hotels You’ll Love!

Traveling around Koh Kood is like something out of a dream, with electric blue waters, soft white sands stretching as far as the eye can see, and gently-fluttering palm fronds dotted with coconuts. Scooting around the island feels like your own little slice of paradise, and best of all, unlike the Thai islands on the Andaman Sea, this part of Thailand is still relatively unperturbed by mass tourism.

Yes, Koh Kood definitely gets a bit busy in the high season, but it’s still reasonable in terms of foot traffic compared to places like Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Samui, and other ultra-popular Thai islands. And if you visit in the low season, you’ll have it all to yourself, though you might have to swap the clear blue waters with some rainy days (but you get free-flowing waterfalls as a welcome trade-off).

Koh Kood definitely gets less visitors than the backpacker-friendly Koh Chang, but partly that’s because prices here are a little bit higher. Koh Kood is one of the most expensive places I’ve traveled in Thailand, but that’s not to say it doesn’t still offer an excellent bargain. It’s also busier and more active than the smaller island of Koh Mak, making it a nice ‘Goldilocks island’ — not too busy, not too sedate.

I spent a week on Koh Kood exploring virtually every town and beach the island has to offer: here are my picks for where to stay in Koh Kood for every budget.

Best Pool Villas: High Season

With one of the best locations in Koh Kood, High Season Pool Villa & Spa is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a really special getaway where budget is no object. It was closed for low season when I visited Koh Kood, but I was staying across the street, and I walked on Klong Chao Beach every night at sunset right past this resort.

The resort has a gorgeous location—Klong Chao Beach seamlessly transitions from beautiful white sand to turquoise shallows to dark blue waters in an otherworldly ombre. It’s genuinely one of the best beaches in Thailand.

But the villas at High Season really take the cake, with each one claiming its own private plunge pool and terrace.

The interiors are jungle bungalows chic with woven materials, thatching, bamboo, and wood accents, giving the space an airy yet warm feeling. It’s like your little oasis right in the heart of Koh Kood.

Most Luxurious: Soneva Kiri

The 5-star paradise of Soneva Kiri is a fantastic place to stay if you want the ultimate luxury, but it doesn’t come cheaply! But these pool villas are the utmost luxury you can experience on the island.

As someone who has stayed at numerous 5-star resorts in the Maldives, I believe it’s comparable in terms of luxury; it’s up there as one of the most luxurious hotels in the Thai islands.

Besides the spacious and open-feeling rooms, there’s a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking one of the only private beaches on Koh Kood (which you have exclusive access to), a sunset-facing outdoor dining area, an ultra-luxe spa, some of the best fine dining on the island, and lots of cute nooks and comfortable seating areas in the resort’s shared spaces.

Best Affordable Luxury: Shantaa Resort

One of the more affordable resort options is Shantaa Resort, which offers an incredible stay for a reasonable price.

They have two-bedroom villas overlooking Ao Taphao Beach, one of the most stunning beaches in Koh Kood (though honestly, I say that about nearly all the beaches there).

The rooms are lovely and spacious, with a private balcony, en-suite bathroom, and A/C. Some rooms even have a massive, comfortable outdoor bathtub to soak under the stars!

The rooms share a lovely outdoor swimming pool, a garden, and a terrace area, and the beach is just a short walk away.

Best Beach Amenities: Rest Sea Resort

The lovely Rest Sea Resort Koh Kood is a dreamy escape with some of the best-value villas on the island. Each villa has a private pool and balcony, A/C, and gorgeous interiors inspired by the jungle and seascapes of Koh Kood.

Plus, it has a fantastic location right on Ao Phrao Beach. This is one of the less-crowded beaches in Koh Kood, as it’s on the far end of the island. You need to take a long, hilly scooter or songthaew ride here, but the isolation is a big part of its charms.

Its privacy makes it a lovely getaway for couples or families who value peace and quiet on their vacations.

Their beach amenities are fantastic, including hammocks swinging over the sea, several floating loungers in the sea for guests to use, a beachfront outdoor pool, double-decker outdoor cabanas, a lovely beach bar, and catamaran net-style hammocks on the beach.

Most Secluded: À La Koh Kood Resort

One of the more budget-friendly resorts in Koh Kood, À La Koh Kood Resort is an excellent choice for travelers who want a luxurious experience without digging too deep into their pockets.

Located on an inlet of a bay in Koh Kood, tucked away in the mangroves, this part of the island has exceptionally calm waters, making it a good choice for families.

The rooms are also gorgeous and spacious, with bamboo frame beds, botanical-inspired interior design details, and private outdoor patios.

It’s on a lagoon off of Khlong Hin Beach, making it a perfect spot to rent kayaks or paddle boards here for a peaceful paddle.

Another lovely beach is located nearby, Ao Jark Beach, also a sheltered bay. These are two of the least crowded beaches in Koh Kood, so they are perfect for those who really want some R&R.
