Norway Travel Blog: Guides, Resources & More!

Beautiful fjords, drastic Arctic landscapes, the aurora dancing overhead in the winter: Norway is a dream destination for many.

Having traveled around the world quite a bit, especially around the Nordics, Norway is one of my favorite places on Earth!

Easy to get around, picture-perfect nature, and unique wildlife experiences: what’s not to love about Norway?

QUICK NORWAY FACTS

Capital: Oslo

Geography: Located in Northern Europe, Norway is part of Scandinavia. It is not part of the EU, but it is a part of the Schengen Zone.

Language: The official language is Norwegian, but English is very widely spoken.

Currency: Norwegian Krone (abbreviated as NOK)

GETTING TO NORWAY

The best way to get to Norway is typically by plane. Most international flights arrive in Oslo.

If visiting mostly Southern Norway, like Oslo and Bergen, then the train will get you around easily once you arrive in Norway.

If you plan to visit Northern Norway, like Tromsø, flying is usually the best bet. Norway is huge, and the trains don’t go as high as Tromsø!

You can also take the Hurtigruten cruise which will bring you to many of the coastal cities along Norway.

BEST TIME TO VISIT NORWAY

Each season in Norway brings something unique, so it’s hard to say what time is best!

Summers bring long days and short nights with “midnight sun” giving you endless hours to explore. Norway is at its warmest, but perhaps also at its busiest, so this can be a crowded and expensive time to visit.

Winters bring short days and blustery weather, and if you’re up north, you may even experience the “polar night” when the sun never rises above the horizon! But in exchange, you get to see Northern lights and enjoy all the winter activities in the polar region.

Spring and autumn are less popular times to visit, but they are more affordable and less crowded.
